Assay Scientist / Senior Assay Scientist

The RxCelerate group provides a platform for out-sourced drug discovery and development services and has a client base ranging from virtual biotech companies to some of the top 15 global pharmaceutical companies. We design and deliver complete drug development programmes and project management for our clients from inception through to and including Phase II clinical studies.

RxCelerate currently has an excellent opportunity for an experienced scientist to help build our antibody discovery platform. This position is based within the RxBiologics team, working at the Babraham Research Campus, a leading site within the Cambridge biotechnology hub.

The Role

The successful candidate is to have a proven track record in running biochemical and cellular assays to support antibody discovery campaigns. They will establish robust processes for the identification and characterisation of antibodies and antibody-related formats. In addition, they will support biologics drug discovery programmes in line with our clients’ requirements.  Strong organisation skills, a flexible approach, exceptional team-working and an ability to prioritise work within a demanding scientific environment are key qualities required for this position. This is a predominantly lab based full-time role with the expectation of the candidate assuming line management and mentoring responsibilities in line with expansion of the team.

Main Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the generation of strategies and workflows that enable delivery of client and internal projects.
  • Implementation of processes to build and advance our antibody profiling capabilities.
  • Provision of cross functional support, facilitating phage display and protein expression campaigns.
  • Presentation and reporting of work to internal project teams and external clients.
  • Maintenance of accurate experimental records and delivery of high quality reports.


Essential Skills/Requirements

  • A PhD, or equivalent laboratory-based experience, preferably gained within the biotechnology or pharmaceutical sector.
  • Experience of working with antibodies and related formats.
  • Experience of developing and running biochemical (high throughput binding/inhibition screens) and cell based assays.
  • Proficiency in the isolation of primary immune cell types.
  • Working knowledge of flow cytometry, affinity measurement and activity-based assays.
  • Ability to accurately interpret data and establish analysis workflows.
  • Technical understanding of phage display, molecular biology and antibody engineering.
  • Excellent organisation, planning and prioritisation skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team.
  • Proactive approach to resolving technical challenges.
  • Good interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.
